The public is invited to witness a ceremonial welcome for traditional Polynesian voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa at Marina Del Rey’s Chace Park, the next stop on the canoe’s four-year Moananuiākea Voyage, a circumnavigation of the Pacific. In what promises to be a sight to behold, the double-hulled canoe and its crew will be escorted into the Marina by the Kizh Nation, a flotilla of outrigger paddling canoes and other water vessels. Hōkūleʻa and her crew will be docked at Marina Del Rey until October 30, for a series of engagements including dockside canoe tours for the public to learn about the canoe’s storied history, ancient wayfinding/navigation and the mission to build a collective movement to care for the oceans.
